the above is not a Cummings poem. it's just excited letters.

I went to an open mic last night. Never been to one before. Coffee house. Maybe 40 people. maybe 17 readers. I was the youngest poet by 6 years. I read Slash and Ivy League.

An interlude: Matt Hampton mc'd. He's a member of a local performance group called the Outlaw Poets. 3 guys, betwen 24-35. All of them are published, and they've hosted and participated in open mics and slams naitonwide. They formed in charleston, and host a weekly open mic, and monthly slam. They're pretty awesome.

Continuing: I read, and got a full house standing ovation. Freaking. Amazing. especially considering that only happened once that night. *squee* And then matt raved for about a minute about me afterward. and then I felt sick, and went to the bathroom.

And then I came out, and there were several poets I'd never met waiting to talk to me. Including matt. lots of handshakes and congratulations and me blushing like a fire engine. And.... that's when matt hampton asked me to become the 4th outlaw poet.

This is the most incredible opportunity I could ever ask for. a 17 year old? with a professional performance troupe of 3 people who i totally admire?
